DNA and Family Connections: My Sicilian Discovery

For the past 3 years I have been on a journey of researching my maternal grandmothers family from Sicily. It has been a difficult task. If not for my stubborn “not a quitter” attitude, I would have given up. At one point, a genealogist told me she would not take my case. She explained it is nearly impossible to identify the unknown parents. These were the parents of a child left in a foundling wheel in Sicily.

Well folks, never give up. With the use of DNA and genealogy websites you have a chance. It has been an exciting time to discover so much about my Great grandparents and all the new cousins.

Meeting a cousin from Sicily was at the top of my list of exciting things. This cousin works for a major airline and had a layover in Atlanta. We have been talking for the past year coordinating with records back and forth. Family ties run deep. It’s difficult to explain, but minutes into the meeting, I felt like I knew him forever.

I have started to record a series of short videos. They will have offer simple tips to help others. They will include research sites, how to read civil and church documents from Italy, and much more. If anyone needs help now please let me know, I am willing to help, for free!

Happy New Year to all…..best wishes that 2025 brings joy, good health and prosperity your way.
