Seven months ago I decided to start making bread at home. There were a variety of reasons put into this decision. The cost of a loaf has jumped, there are a lot of artificial preservatives added, and I needed a relaxing hobby away from screens.

My daughter found a bread baking machine at a local thrift store and it works well for sandwich bread and it is a convenience piece of equipment. With ten minutes of prep time you can put the ingredients in the well, and let it do its thing for two and one half hours. Your home will smell wonderful.

My efforts to make sour dough bread starter has yet to be successful. I found a recipe for beginners and I am now on day five. Yesterday the bubbles appeared. I did the discard, and feed hoping to see a rise in size.

But today looks disappointing :[.

So far I don’t see a rise, it does have bubbles, and it is making “hooch”, and that means it needs to be fed.
