I was not discouraged by the 1/2 mile steep downward trail at Forest Park because I was excited to visit the “Witches Castle”. The old stone house covered in graffiti is located at the southern most segment of the Tualatin Mountain Range. I accessed the dirt Wildwood trail at the Upper Macleay parking area. At some points the trail is narrow and ran along the edge of the canyon.
At the lowest point Balch creek flows over the rocks along side the trail. As you pass the creek you can spot the roof peak of the stone house.
When I arrived I was expecting to see something out of a fairy tale. But instead I found a stone house full of scribbled expressions. It was still fun to see and the forest is beautiful.
I took a few minutes to check it out and read the information panel.
Then it was back to the hill. I was very thankful for the beautiful birds serenading the way.
