I was not discouraged by the 1/2 mile steep downward trail at Forest Park because I was excited to visit the “Witches Castle”. The old stone house covered in graffiti is located at the southern most segment of the Tualatin Mountain Range. I accessed the dirt Wildwood trail at the Upper Macleay parking area. At some points the trail is narrow and ran along the edge of the canyon.

At the lowest point Balch creek flows over the rocks along side the trail. As you pass the creek you can spot the roof peak of the stone house.

When I arrived I was expecting to see something out of a fairy tale. But instead I found a stone house full of scribbled expressions. It was still fun to see and the forest is beautiful.

I took a few minutes to check it out and read the information panel.

Then it was back to the hill. I was very thankful for the beautiful birds serenading the way.
Hi Jo or Alice! I’ve run the Wildwood trail so many times I’ve lost count. It’s nice to have close by. But if you want steep, try the Benson Plateau trail starting in the gorge. I had to get on my hands and knees. Take care!
thanks for the suggestion, I’ll look into the next time I’m in Oregon.
Interesting trail and nice images.
