Beaufort National Cemetery-Beaufort South Carolina
Today we celebrate Memorial Day in the United States. This day is set aside to honor those who died in war. The tradition started after the Civil War and is held on the last Monday in May. Ceremonies are held country wide on this day at Veterans Parks, Military bases, and National Cemeteries just name a few. This year, due to Covid-19 most were cancelled.
My son-in-law rests here among many heroes. This year I made a small bouquet attached to a flag to set a the headstone. He was just 24 years old.
Those who have served in the military and have been discharged other than dishonorable, may qualify for burial in a National Cemetery along with a spouse.
Here are a few photos from the past ceremonies when all the graves were decorated with the help of the Boy Scouts.
National Cemeteries are quiet and serene places. Speaking for myself, it is a perfect place to honor, thank and pray for the great sacrifices so many have made.
Beaufort National Cemetery is on the National Register of Historic Places.
