Italian Egg Cookies

A Christmas tradition in my family is to bake Italian Cookies.  The recipe was passed down to me from my aunt.  I sometimes adjust the flour if it doesn’t feel right.  Also, when I had her write it down it was a close guess on the amount of the ingredient because she never used a measuring cup, just her hands.



Cream together
2 2/3 cup flour
2/3 cup Crisco (solid vegetable shortening)
1 cup sugar

Add :
4 eggs (1 at a time)
1/2 cup milk
3 1/4 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. anise extract ( may substitute with vanilla, orange or any flavor you like)
Mix all ingredients together and form in balls
use a greased or non-stick cookie sheet
Bake at 350′ for 10 minutes
drizzle icing over cooled cookies-decorate for the occasion

I used shredded coconut on some, but the kids don’t like it
makes 4-5 dozen
