Johnny Bench was born in Oklahoma City in 1947, and was raised in the nearby rural community of Binger. He played Major League Baseball from 1967-1983. In 1965 the Cincinnati Reds drafted Johnny Bench and in 1968 was was recognized as “Rookie of the year”. He played his entire career, mainly as a catcher, for the Reds.
