Florida’s Pink Palace

St. Pete Beach, Florida

The Don Cesar located on the Gulf Coast of Florida is listed as a “Historic Hotel of America”.

In 1928 Thomas Rowe opened the regal resort, and it became a popular destination for some of the most famous people of the time. Many of the “bigwigs” from various professions were guests of the resort. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers filmed part of a documentary from the rooftop in 1985. Billy Joel, Coretta Scott King, Babe Ruth, and Elton John were also guests.

During World War II the Army purchased the hotel and used it as a sub base, then a convalescent center for returning airmen. The hotel was sold to William Bowman in 1972 and underwent a 3.5 Million Dollar restoration plan.

The bright hotel overlooking the white sand beach of St. Pete is an amazing vacation choice as well as a quick weekend get-a-way.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you are enjoying the sites of Coastal Georgia, South Carolina, and Florida 🙂
