An Alpine Lodge With A Famous Story

A heat alert occurred during my recent Portland, Oregon, visit. Temperatures reached triple digits and broke record highs for August.

Rather than being stuck indoors in the air conditioning, my outdoor-loving son planned a day trip. I asked him if I should dress for cooler temperatures by heading to the beach or the mountains. He mysteriously smiled and would not disclose our destination. We were on a scenic highway driving uphill within the hour. Surrounded by Douglas fir trees, making the mountains their home. That’s when I had the first feeling of familiarity. My mind told me I’d seen this before, but my good sense says different.

Well, let’s have a look at the photos I took:

Are you getting the same vibe? Don’t scroll ahead; you’ll ruin the surprise.

As we approached the elevation of 6000 feet, another familiar site appeared.

I was thankful for my popping ears that kept me grounded during the awkward feeling of knowing this place. My son enjoyed the confused look on my face but did not offer any clues. Since the parking lot was full, I knew it had to be popular.

We entered through an opened door on the lower level. The hotel’s name is the Timberline Lodge, listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
It is located on the south side of Mt. Hood, providing year-round recreation, including skiing, snowboarding, and hiking.

Now, let’s look at this family-friendly hotel you may know as The Overlook.

The film is based on Stephen Kings 1977 masterpiece “The Shining”.

This was a fun day out 🙂

I hope you enjoyed the photos,

Alice
