Presidents Day Walk

Last Monday was a federal holiday in the US in which we celebrate Presidents Day. Celebrated on the third Monday in February the banks, federal offices, and schools close. But for my family it was an extra special day because my Granddaughter “sweet Lilyfield” turned from tween to teen. To celebrate the big birthday we took an overnight trip to Jacksonville Florida.

Our first stop of the day was for cold drinks on the St. Johns River front. The weather was perfect with the temperature in the mid 70’s.

Craving fresh seafood for lunch we headed to the Mediterranean inspired community of San Marco.

We like to get off the beaten paths of the tourist areas and blend into the local neighborhoods. It’s the best way to dine in small establishments and check out the unique boutiques. And the birthday girl had shopping on her mind.

The community offers an attractive way for artists to display their work taking up some time to check out the area.

The tree lined streets boost some pretty homes and architecture.

In the middle of the community square is a charming park for those of us who like to sit and “people watch” or relax after a long walk.

And to finish off the day we had fresh shrimp and hushpuppies.

Hope your day is going well. Thanks for walking along.
