Freshly baked Cheerios have sent a sweet aroma over the city for the past eighty years. The cereal is baked at the S. Michigan Street plant near downtown. Originally called “CheeriOats”, the name was shortened in 1945.


It was always fun to pick up the scent because the winds have a say in where it travels. I always thought it smelled like vanilla cake mix, and it may be because I think they make some of that too!
