One of the exciting moments for train-watching fans was to see the caboose at the end. The red relic was used as a shelter for crew members on the train and an office area for conductors. Today with the train running many functions by a computer almost all cabooses have been removed.
Many communities have accepted the donation of these unused cars by rail companies. There’s no better way to add a bit of nostaglia to an old depot or community center.
