America’s First Century

Beaufort South Carolina

More than 40 years before English settlers came to  the New World, Spanish adventurers created an empire of explorers across North and South America, including a city named Santa Elena that would last 21 years. Its remnants sit on today’s Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island. Just 6 percent of the historic site has been excavated.”

  1. The painted bench is so pretty I don’t think I’d sit on it. St. Elena’s looks very interesting, a pleasant place to explore.

      1. Yes it was and hot! 🥵 it took me a while to climatize to the humidity. North Texas is a dry heat. I’m used to it now being in Florida for 33 years. 😊
