Blind Willie McTell-Statesboro, Georgia

In 1981 Blind Willie McTell was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame, and in 1990 the Georgia Music Hall of Fame. Born in 1898 in Thompson, Georgia he lost his sight as a child. He was still able to go on and become an accomplished musician and was able to read and write music in Braille. His song “Statesboro Blues” has also been recorded by other famous artists such as the Allman Brothers Band and Taj Mahal.

The statue of his likeness is now on display in front of the Statesboro Convention and Visitors Bureau.
