Fort Fremont Preserve, St. Helena Island, South Carolina
A few years ago I took my grandchildren on a “ghost hunting” trip to Fort Fremont. Some of the “ghost residents’ according to local legend are a headless soldier, a pioneer woman searching for her children, and a slave who was separated from his wife and wishes to reunite.
It’s hard to visit the site and not get an eerie feeling. Located along the Beaufort River, the natural scenery is beautiful, making it easy to understand why one would not want to leave. The spooky part is the battery.

I am not one who gets “spooked” very easily, since I don’t believe spirits hang around to hurt anyone. They are just lost souls trying to find an answer to something holding them down. But on this day, we did question their mischief. As we approached the battery and I tapped the button on my camera, nothing happened. I checked the settings, and the battery and still nothing. So, I used my cell phone, and it worked. Take a close look at the photo, we all saw the apparition between the fourth and fifth opening. And the more we looked the more we could see.

It’s just one of those things, Happy Halloween 👻

Once we left the Fort my camera worked fine.
