Coastal Discovery Museum-Hilton Head Island, South Carolina


The Gullah people are African Americans that live in the Low Country of the state of South Carolina. The are known for preserving their heritage, by continuing and sharing traditions. In 2006, Congress passed the “Gullah/Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor Act.” This act allocated ten million dollars toward the preservation of Gullah Historic sites.

Some of the other foods found in the garden are:
- Corn
- Peas and beans
- Okra
- collard greens
- sweet potatoes
- Rice
