Armory, Orphanage, Free School, and Academic Center
The Entrance of the Volunteer Guard Armory, today known as SCAD’s Poetter Hall, features two cannons. These cannons were found during the demolition of the formerly used armory. The first classes for Savannah College of Art and Design were taught in this building in the spring of 1979.

The 1932 building addition has been used as a health clinic, orphanage, and free school.

And to compliment the many uses of this community building, the students offer the tourists a fun selfie spot.

Savannah Georgia is a year round tourist destination, and a historically rich city.
