Memphis Bound

Elvis birthplace in Tupelo Mississippi

Replica of the 1939 Plymouth driven to Memphis in 1948 when the Presley family moved from Tupelo.

In the biography of Elvis written by Peter Guarainick, Elvis is quoted as saying:

“We were broke, man, broke and we left Tupelo overnight. Dad packed all our belongings in boxes and put them in the trunk and on top of a 1939 Plymouth. We just headed for Memphis. Things had to be better.”
