The building is now home to a renowned Sushi restaurant.

Andrew Carnegie, a Scottish-American Industrialist, provided grants to fund libraries between 1883-1919. For a community to obtain a grant, it had to meet certain criteria, including a need, provide a site, and, more importantly, secure a fund to maintain the library.

  1. Having grown up in Pittsburgh, I am always happy to see a Carnegie Library. Sad that this isn’t still a library, but I’m glad the building has been maintained.

  2. I love the tree on the left. It cracks me up that it’s a sushi restaurant (or any restaurant) partly because it doesn’t look at all like one. I’d prefer a library, but at least it’s been put to good use. 😉

  4. I visited the house where Carnegie grew up in Dundee. It is quite modest. He was a remarkable man. He gave Dundee a swimming pool and a technical college as well as a library. He also gave the town a beautiful park as he was not allowed to play there as a child.
