Second Dose of the Covid-19 Vaccine

This past Thursday at 5PM, I had my second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. Just to be clear I think that it is an individuals personal decision whether or not to take it. But because many are curious about side effects, here is my experience.

The first dose was easy, but I did have more side effects with the second. My injection was at 5PM Thursday. Friday, at 3 AM I woke with a low fever, a lot of chills, a good bit a muscle aches, and a sore arm. I didn’t take any medications to ease the symptoms hoping to give my immune system it’s best chance to do what ever it does. I fell back to sleep until 8AM. I was very tired and without an appetite, coffee didn’t even sound good.

All day Friday I stayed on the chair covered in blankets watching TV. The fever was gone early in the day, but the chills and fatigue stayed until about 6PM. Then I started feeling better. I went to sleep at 8PM and slept eleven hours. Saturday I felt good enough to go to the store and had an appetite, and Sunday I was fine.

For me it was worth taking the vaccine because I can feel better about seeing my grandchildren. Also, getting Covid-19 at my age could put me on the brink of death or worse.

  1. Thanks for sharing this! They are getting ready to give them out where my mom works and she’s debating on if she should get it or not. I’m sending her this to read.

  2. Thanks for sharing your experience Alice. It mirrors exactly what my friends (who have had both shots) have said. I will get my 1st shot on the 11th and my second next month. I feel good about the decision, but will continue to wear a mask for months, if not years to come.
