The Ups and Downs of January

Savannah Georgia

Hello friends, I hope you had a wonderful week. Here in the southeastern US it’s hard to plan ahead because the weather flip flops from day to day in the month of January. Locals often refer to this as the socks and sandals days.

With the sunshine and clear blue skies, I started the week with a beach walk on Amelia Island Florida. It’s a quick hour and a half drive from Savannah.

Feeling refreshed I seemed to get a lot of errands done and actually cleaned out drawers that were packed full of old mail. The paper shredder worked overtime that day.

Later in the week I cut my afternoon walks short because of gray skies, rain and cold winds,

Good News for you:

One interesting fact about January is that last year our region had a record-breaking amount of flu cases. This year local health officials are reporting Zero cases. That is incredible. They are attributing this to the increase in vaccinations, hand washing, social distancing, and masks. This is something to think about.

Here is the map of the US cases for this week:

Best wishes to all for a healthy week ahead.

I enjoyed the visit 🙂

  1. Hello Alice – the term sock and sandal weather is so familiar to me, mosty from midsummer in Sweden! 😀 When you travel to the midsummer celebration there, you don’t know whether to pack you woollen socks or your summer clothes. I usually packed both!
I love your photo of the wooden path. The area loos lovely for walking around, reminds me of the area in Spain where my inlaws have a house.

  2. The walking paths to the beach and the park look so inviting. Thank you, Alice, for sharing your story and photos. #WeekendCoffeeShare

  3. It is like you live on a different planet, we have so much snow now and really cold weather 🙂 I enjoyed seeing your photos. I hope you are enjoying a fabulous weekend.
