Hilton Head Island South Carolina
Located near historic Mitchelville on Beach City Road and Dillon Roads. Listed on the National Register of Historic places in 2011, the site is open to the public with a walking trail free of charge. There are not any structures left but the site has information boards along the way telling the story of this fort built by the Union soldiers in 1864.
The flag is a replica of one of the Union flags from this time period.
The trail is clearly marked and metal art figures along the way tell the stories of folks during this war- time era.
This walk is for the outdoors person. The trail takes you in the woods and since you are on an island surrounded by water, mosquitos and other critters will be hanging around.
Bug spray is very recommended 🙂

After your tour you will be ordered “at ease”since this Fort did not see any raids or action from the Confederate forces.
