A Taste of the Great Food Truck Race

Hilton Head Island-South Carolina

Competitors of the Food Networks “great food truck race” rolled into Shelter Cove Community Park with the best barbeque recipes on four wheels.  It was easy enough to participate, all you have to do is show up.

Unlike watching the competition on television you need to bring your patience along with your appetite.

It takes time for the setup and the preparation of the food.  In the meantime, you can follow the cameras around and hope to get a spot on the episode they are filming.

Many of the customers walked around checking out each truck and what their theme is trying to get a jump start on where they will line up, to place their order.

I decided on Rolling Indulgence.  They offer a “fifties” menu, and one of the required dishes was barbeque pork.  My thoughts were it may not be as spicy as some of the others.  Also, they were super nice to talk with.  I ordered the combo that included a Pulled pork Reuben sandwich,, baked beans and a drink. $20.00

It was a really fun time so if they roll your way it might be something to try.  One thing to note is they only take cash at the competition.  The truck that makes the least amount is eliminated, so your order matters.

Every truck offered great service with an entertaining greeter:

And don’t forget to smile for the cameras 🙂

  1. It is great when the food truck business does so well in your country. In Singapore, they tried it and it did not work. Here our hawker trade is buoyant, around the corner and cheaper than food truck pricing. Food truck serve meals that are costlier than say a bowl of noodles or a plate of chicken rice for under $5. For us, the novelty wore out and licences to operate the food truck business was pulled as it was not economically viable.
