US 1 takes you to Santa Clause

US Route 1 is a major east coast highway that runs from Fort Kent Maine to Key West Florida, a north/south corridor. Some of the most known cities travelers will find themselves passing through are New York, Richmond, Philadelphia, St. Augustine and Santa Clause.

Yes, you read that correctly. Santa Clause Georgia is located south of Savannah not far from the Florida state line. You may think this is a secretive place and wonder why you never heard of it.  My best guess is that most folks travel on the Interstates for convenience, and miss out on small-town America and the beauty of the rural countryside.
Turning left off US1 South onto December Drive the city hall is located there.
I stopped into the Mayor’s office to get information but they happen to be at the gift shop greeting visitors.  The gift shop has a good selection of souvenirs and take note that they only accept cash or check

There are no signs of “Scrooge” in this town and everyone is on the “nice” list.

There is a non-denominational chapel of Christian ministry on US1 and it is open 24 hours a day. As you walk the path to the chapel Christmas music plays.

While on US 1 in Georgia it is easy to find. Just look for Santa on the side of the road, and pull over right away, there’s no getting lost. The city has a population of 161 and the total area is 0.2 square miles according to Georgia.gov website.  By chance, if you get confused as to which way to go, just stay with the candy cane signs and find your way to the reindeer trail.

Christmas is all year round in Santa Clause, and it’s very accessible from three major interstates.
