From time to time I get “out of the swamps” of Coastal Carolina, Florida and Georgia and explore the “big city” parks. Central Park in New York City is laid out over 843 acres and takes more than one visit to see it all. Located on the Upper West to Upper East side of Manhattan this park has been enjoyed by millions since opening in 1859. This urban oasis surrounded by skyscrapers offers greenspace, walking trails, lakes, trees, monuments, food trucks, artists, musicians, landmarks, carriage rides, tunnels, bridges, and a zoo. Designed by Frederick Law Olmstead and Calvert Vaux, on what once was a swamp where black bears roamed, winter or summer the scenery is a delight.
I began my walk at the Columbus Circle entrance and followed close to the Bethesda Walk
Central Park was the first landscaped park in America.

We made it, without the taxi and had lunch at Juniors in the Theater District

Tourist Tip:
To keep a sense of direction on walks in Manhattan NYC , streets run east and west, Avenues run north and south
