The Low Country of South Carolina offers an abundance of leisurely outdoor activities. The Cypress Wetlands shown here are located in Port Royal.  The adventurous side of me decided to take the walk just assuming I would catch up with others on such a beautiful spring day.

I did my due diligence and read the rules.  Then I proceeded to the large deck overlooking the wetland that leads you to the walking trail.

Not feeling very comfortable with the sign, and the pond very close, my memories of the Okefenokee returned.  As the ground gets lower I am happy to see a wooden walkway with a rail and metal meshing to keep the critters away.

This is where it gets very quiet and I start losing hope in finding another visitor nearby.

I can see ahead of me and the end of the wooden walkway. As I stepped off the decking and back onto to the blacktop the warning sign stared at me.

I softly took a few steps forward, then I heard the “splash” and a chorus of birds chirping. I skewed around and high tailed it back to the safety of the deck.  Needless to say, that ended my tour for the day.  I’m not a quitter so I’ll be going back, but I’m bringing a big stick.

Port Royal South Carolina is located just south of Beaufort South Carolina. Lots to see and do in this cool seaside town.
